Why search for journal articles?
- Journal articles are an excellent source of scholarly, up to date information.
- Journal articles are reviewed by experts before they are published. This means that journal articles are much more reliable than most webpages.
- Journal articles tend to focus on specific aspects of topics.
Searching the databases
You can find journal articles by searching the journal databases via the Library home page.
1. Click on Articles via databases.
2. Select Biology, Agriculture and Environment from the Subject menu OR click on the recommended databases links on the right.
3. Read the abstracts of journal articles that look relevant. The abstract is a summary of the article and can help you to work out whether the article is worth reading or tracking down.
4. Check the library catalogue to see if you can access the journal from the La Trobe University Library.
Hint: Do a library catalogue title search using the journal title. You will need to note the year, volume, issue and page numbers to find the article.
