Library catalogue records

There are two ways to import library catalogue records into your EndNote library: using a connection file (recommended) or using an import filter.

1. Importing Library catalogue records using a connection file

The advantage of using a connection file is that you can search and copy library catalogue records from within your EndNote library.

  • Open EndNote.
  • Select Tools > Online search
  • Select the connection file, La Trobe U and click on Choose.
  • Search the catalogue by typing in your search terms, and click on Search.

2. Importing Library catalogue records using a filter

Download Library catalogue records

  • Access the La Trobe University Library catalogue at: http://library.latrobe.edu.au
  • Select titles in the catalogue and click on Export saved list.
  • From Format of List select Full Display.
  • From Send List to select Local disk.
  • Click on Submit> Save.

Import Library catalogue records

  • Open your EndNote library.
  • Select File>Import>Choose File.
  • Select your file and click on Open.
  • Click on the Import Option drop down menu to select LTULcallnumber.enf
  • If this filter is not listed, click on Other filters to view the full range of filters available and select the LTULcallnumber filter.
  • Click on Import to import your records

    Ovid databases

    1. Search an OVID database

    2. In the Ovid Results Manager section:

    • Select Selected Results under the Results heading;
    • Select Citation + Abstract under the Fields heading (or choose Complete Reference to include keywords and notes);
    • Select Direct Export under the Result Format heading;
    • Click-on Save under the Actions heading;

    3. When EndNote opens, select the reference library into which you want to import the records. Click Open.

    4. Click on the Group All References.

    5. Click on References> Find duplicates.

    6. Click on the Group Duplicate references.

    7. Choose Move References to Trash from the References menu to remove the duplicates.

    The EndNote default criteria for detecting duplicates are reference type, author, year and title fields. You can change the criteria for detecting duplicates by selecting:

    • Edit> Preferences> Duplicates.
    • Select the fields you want EndNote to compare e.g. Author, Year and Pages.

    Other library databases

    Instructions for downloading or direct exporting database records are available for selected Library databases on the Library EndNote website.

    Importing from Google Scholar

    You can change the Google Scholar preferences so that you can export references straight into Endnote:

    • Go to the Scholar preferences page.
    • Towards the bottom of this screen you will see a section called Bibliography Manager. Under this, select the Show links to import citations and select EndNote from the dropdown menu.
    • Select EndNote from the Bibliography Manager option.
    • Perform a search and you will see that a new link appears under each citation - Import into EndNote. Click on this to import individual references into your Endnote libraries.
