Factiva provides access to a comprehensive collection of Australian and international newspapers.
Note that the newspapers that are covered by Factiva are generally not listed in the library catalogue.
To access Factiva, go to the library home page and click on Databases, then click on the letter 'F'.
Select Factiva from the databases listed.
Select the group of newspapers that you want to search by expanding the Source field. The default is set to Australian newspapers. Note the date range. The default is set to the past three months.
Enter your search terms in the Free Text Search box. Remember to use connectors (and, or) to join the parts of the search. The wild card is the asterisk (*).
You may want to change the dates.
You can use the word count option to find lengthy articles. Add wc>number (for example wc>300) to the search string. Remember to add the connector 'and'.
To determine if a newspaper is available online via Factiva, enter the name of the newspaper in the Browse Sources box.
Click on the Information icon to get coverage information. Click on the blue arrow to select that title to search as a source. Note that you can search more than one source.
Note that coverage for each newspaper varies.
