Ordering new library material

Keeping up to date with the literature - current awareness services

Current Contents journal title alert

  • Click on the Journal radio button.
  • Type in the full journal name.
  • Click on Search.
  • Select a journal from the list and click on Search For Selected Terms.
  • Click on Save Search History, located under the Search History box, on the main search page.
  • You will be prompted to type in your OVID username and password (register for this if you haven’t already done so).
  • In the Search Name, type in a name for your search.
  • Change the Type to AutoAlert(SDI).
  • To receive the alert in a format that can be imported into EndNote, use Reprint/Medlars under Result Format.
  • Click on Save.

  • Type in your keywords in the keyword search box.
  • Click on Search.
  • Select a journal from the list and click on Search For Selected Terms.

Setting up alerts in other Ovid databases

Follow the procedures above (for creating a Current Contents keyword search alert), to create alerts in the following Ovid databases:

  • Biological Abstracts
  • BIOSIS Previews
  • CAB Abstracts
  • EMBASE
  • MEDLINE
  • PsycINFO

Please also note that staff and postgraduates can borrow bound copies of most of our Library journals.

 

 

Interlending and document delivery service

The Library offers an interlibrary document delivery service to all postgraduate students.  Students can request items not held in the La Trobe University Library.

Honours students may receive 25 items per year (either books or journal articles) from external libraries, with Masters and PhD students receiving an extended quota of 100 items per year.

You will receive an email alert when your interlibrary loan request is available.

Please note that interlibrary loan documents will be deleted 10 days after your have viewed them  - please print documents as soon as possible.

Searching for theses

Copies of all La Trobe University PhD and Masters theses are held in the Library.

An increasing number of electronic copies of theses can be found at the Australian Digital Theses Program.

To find La Trobe University theses in the library catalogue:

  • if you know the Author or Title of the thesis, search using these options.
  • if you want to find all the theses from a particular Department or School, or on a particular subject:
    • select Advanced search
    • type in the Department name or other keywords in the Keywords search box.
    • select Material Type > Thesis
    • Click on Search

Copies of honours theses are not held in the La Trobe University Library. Please contact the appropriate University department for locate honours theses.

Search for Australian theses using Australian Digital Theses 

Search for US theses using ProQuest Dissertations
