Encyclopedias and edited books

Start your research with encyclopedias to get a broad overview of an subject area, concept or field as they have article length entries, suggestions for further reading and other helpful background information.

Other encyclopedias can be found by using 'encyclopedia' and 'gender' with terms such as 'sexuality', 'media' etc. in Library Search.

Edited books are good sources of information for undergraduate subjects.

  • They have essay / chapters written by different people on a specific topic.
  • The authors chosen are often the leading experts in the field.

An example of an edited book on gender and sexuality:

Use Achieve @ Uni, and the journal articles, media and history pages to do more advanced research, and the Research at La Trobe University page to find out and follow the extensive work that La Trobe University academics have done and continue to do in this area.
