Copyright for students

As a student you are required to comply with the Australian Copyright Act when using resources for your assessments.  This includes copying, printing and sharing information such as journal articles, book chapters, images and more.

Details on what and how much you can copy is available here.

The Australian Copyright Act contains fair dealing exceptions that allow copyright-protected material to be used in certain ways without permission.

These include fair dealing for the purpose of:

  • Research or study
  • Criticism or review
  • Reporting the news
  • Parody or satire
  • Access by persons with a disability

You can find more information on fair dealing from the Australian Copyright Council fact sheet: Fair Dealing: What Can I Use Without Permission
