Overview
What is learning design?
Learning design is the process of consciously and thoughtfully designing the learning journey through the creation of learning experiences that are aligned to student learning needs. It involves making deliberate choices about how to teach and how to scaffold learning to best support students on their learning journey. It is a learner-first strategy that encourages educators to think not only about what content they need to teach students but how to best deliver that content to students.
The ADDIE model
The ADDIE model is one of the most popular learning design models. It is highly structured and as such is often used to support larger instructional design projects. However, it is still useful as a guide when working on short video and interactive module projects. The acronym stands for Analyse, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate, and refers to the steps necessary to designing effective learning experiences. We will break down the steps of the ADDIE process in this guide.
