Indigenous Referencing Guidance for Indigenous Knowledges

The Indigenous Knowledge Attribution Toolkit (IKAT) was created by the Indigenous Archives Collective (IAC) and supported by CACIK. It provides specific details on citing Indigenous knowledges. It also includes a decision tree to consider prior to including an indigenous source within your assignment to assess if the content you are considering to use is appropriate. Any source that you include within your assessments needs to be considered prior to inclusion, when it comes to using Indigenous knowledge additional steps need to be taken to also consider; the language used; if you are using a legacy resource published with outdated views; and/or if consent has been given by the creator.
