Citation alerts are offered by some free and fee-based database providers.
- Document citation alerts are notification of newly added documents that cite a specific article.
- Author citation alerts are notifications when any paper published by an author is cited in another document.
The process for setting up a citation alert generally involves:
- setting up a database account
- searching a database to identify the desired paper or author
- activating the alert by selecting the 'set citation alert' link
