Safe and secure data transfer

The AARNet FileSender tool is the recommended way to securely share files with internal and external collaborators (both sending and receiving). It can also be used to send and receive sensitive data with research participants.

Files are encrypted during transfer, and it is possible to set expiry dates, maximum download numbers, and download notifications to further control the security of the data.

The Research Data Management Policy states that:

All research data intended for transfer outside of Australia must be assessed by the Chief Investigator to determine if the transfer of the research data is affected by export control laws. All permit applications must be sought through La Trobe University registered personnel, and records of transfers must be maintained for the approved duration period by the Chief Investigator. Records must be made available to the University for annual review (Section 32).
