Working with your assessment topic

When you look at an essay question, there will be task keywords and topic keywords. Take the following example:

Graffiti leads to more violent crimes: critically discuss this statement with reference to the broken windows theory.

The task keywords here are critically discuss.This is what you need to do.

The topic keywords are graffitiviolent crime and broken windows theory. These are the topics of your discussion.

We can use a concept map to assist the process of brainstorming synonyms (other words that mean the same or similar) for our keywords.
