Google Scholar indexes a wide range of publications including journal articles, books, grey literature, theses, pre-prints and conference proceedings.

Strengths:

• Comprehensive citation coverage in most disciplines

Weaknesses

• Journal coverage, period and depth of indexing is undisclosed
• Citation counts can be inflated due to inclusion of non-scholarly works and multiple versions
• Self-citations are not removed

Citation counts and author h-indexes are displayed on authors' Google Scholar profiles. Please use these instructions to set up a profile.

Authors without a profile can use the Publish or Perish software to gather and analyse citation data from Google Scholar.
