Databases with citation counts and/or Altmetrics
The following databases provide citation counts and other metrics across a range of disciplines.
No database has complete coverage of all publications. It is important to check their scope and use multiple sources to accurately represent your citation impact.
- ACM DIgitalResearch, discovery and networking platform that covers ACM publications and computing literature from the Association of Computing Machinery. Citation counts are listed in the Bibliometrics section of each search result.
- Business source ultimateCovers all business disciplines. Includes times cited.
- CitEc: Citations in EconomicsProvides citation analysis from the RePRc (Research in Economics) database.
- Cite Seer XUseful for computing and information sciences. Check the 'include citations' box for citation counts.
- EBSCOHost eBook CollectionCovers a range of disciplines. Includes PlumX metrics.
- EconLit with full textContent includes hundreds of full-text journals, including American Economic Association journals. Includes times cited and PlumX metrics
- Google ScholarA major source of citation metrics. Very strong coverage of social sciences and multidisciplinary publications. Authors can set up a profile that displays their h-index, publications, citation counts and other metrics.
- GreenFILECovers the environmental effects of individuals and groups and what can be done to minimise negative impacts. Includes times cited and PlumX metrics
- HeinOnline Law Journal LibraryProvides citation and access metrics for articles in US and Canadian law journals.
- Historical AbstractsIncludes times cited and PlumX metrics
- IEEE ExploreIncludes articles from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineer's (IEEE) journals and conference proceedings. You can sort your search results by 'most cited' and see the number of times an article has been cited on the search results page.
- InCitesA tool used for benchmarking individual, group and institutional productivity. Based on Web of Science citation data.
- Journals@OVIDArticles in medicine, science and social science. Search for a particular article, then click Find Citing Articles.
- LawCiteLawCite is an international legal case and journal article citator.
- LGBTQ+ SourceCovers hundreds of scholarly and popular LGBT publications and historically important primary sources. Includes times cited and PlumX metrics
- Library, Information Science & Technology AbstractsIncludes times cited and PlumX metrics
- MathSciNet (AMS)Database that indexes reviews, abstracts and bibliographic information of mathematical literature. Includes author and journal citations.
- Medline (Ovid)Covers medicine, nursing, health professions, behavioral and basic sciences, humanities and technology. Citation information is available within the article details by selecting 'find citing articles'.
- PLOSAn Open Access publisher. PLOS provides article-level metrics, including views to PLOS and PubMed Central journals, saves on CiteULike and Mendeley, citations through CrossRef, Datacite, Europe PMC, PubMed Central, Scopus and Web of Science, and discussions on PLOS Comments, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and Wikipedia.
- Political Science CompleteIncludes times cited and PlumX metrics
- ProQuestSearches multidisciplinary journals and databases. Result lists and records include citation counts and altmetrics.
- Science DirectCovers scientific, medical, technical articles and books.
- SciFinderThis discovery platform includes literature from the biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, agricultural sciences as well as the Chemical Abstracts and Medline databases.
- SciValA tool for benchmarking individual and group productivity and for finding research collaborators. Based on Scopus citation data.
- ScopusA major source of citation data. Broad coverage of all disciplines and very strong coverage of science and technology. Provides author and citation metrics as well as altmetrics.
- Social Science Research Network (SSRN)An eLibrary of research papers across 30 disciplines. Paper statistics include citations and downloads.
- SocINDEX with Full TextIncludes times cited and PlumX metrics
- SpringerLinkMultidisciplinary publisher platform that includes citations and other article-level metrics.
- Web of ScienceA major source of citation metrics. Very strong coverage in natural sciences, health sciences, computer science and materials sciences. Useful tools for summarising and visualising citation impact.
