Green OA - deposit into OPAL
Deposit Accepted Manuscripts into OPAL
The ability to deposit the Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) version of your book or chapter into OPAL, the University Repository, is contingent on the specific policy of the publisher.
Publishers frequently provide information about their green (repository) open access policies on their websites. It’s advisable to discuss possible green open access with any potential publisher early in the process, as you may need to negotiate repository deposit rights and ensure they are included in any contract. If repository deposit is permitted, any embargo will be managed by the Research Repository team.
Where else to locate publisher archiving policies
The OAPEN List of compliant book publishers site has a link to the self archiving policy under each publisher
Sherpa Services have recently launched an Open Access for Books site which has the archiving policies of twenty publishers (as at July 2024).
If you regularly publish with a particular publisher, it’s worth checking to see whether these publishers have either an Open Access publishing option, or the option of submitting to a repository as green open access (i.e. the accepted manuscript into OPAL, the University institutional repository).
Some examples from the OAPEN site include Cambridge University Press and Routledge (BPC and CPC pricing)..
