Book OA publishing models

Overview

There are a number of types of Open Access book publishers (e.g. commercial publishers, university presses, scholar-led presses, library publishing), and also a number of business models (e.g. Book processing charge (BPC), delayed BPC, freemium, delayed freemium, subsidised, subscribe to open, crowdfunding, institutional crowdfunding).

University/Niche/Not for Profit open access book publishers

Many book publishers offer a publishing model where an online or PDF version is available for free and a paper version is available for sale as a hard copy print-on-demand, or as an e-book. Examples are Open Book Publishers and Open Humanities Press.
