Systematic reviews follow rigorous standards to ensure that they use sound methodology, and that the review's conclusions and recommendations are valid. A number of guidelines and standards are available to guide authors through the process:
- Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews of interventionsProvides guidance to authors for the preparation of Cochrane Intervention reviews. Part 2, Chapter 6 covers searching for reviews.
- PRISMA: Transparent reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analysesProvides an evidence-based minimum set of items for reporting in systematic reviews and meta-analyses. It includes a 27-item checklist and a four-phase flow diagram.
- Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Manual for Evidence SynthesisPublished 2020. Provides guidance to authors for the conduct and preparation of JBI systematic reviews and evidence syntheses.
