How to donate to the Archives

What can I donate?

La Trobe University Archives welcome donations of materials relating to La Trobe University, its antecedent and affiliate institutions, staff, students, alumni, and broader communities. We particularly invite materials documenting the perspectives of La Trobe's diverse communities.

We accept materials in a wide variety of formats, including both physical and digital objects.

How does donation work?

If you are interested in donating materials to the Archives, please fill out the Donation Offer Form at the bottom of this page, and email it to archives@latrobe.edu.au. Please provide as much detail as possible about the content, format, condition, and provenance of the materials you wish to donate.

Once we have reviewed this form, we will contact you to either accept or reject the offer of donation. Acceptance of materials is based on a range of criteria, including:

  • relevance, relationship, or importance to La Trobe University and its antecedents;
  • present condition and ongoing preservation requirements;
  • uniqueness, and potential value as a research, education, and institutional memory resource; and
  • access requirements and restrictions.

We accept materials into the collections with the intention of making them accessible to the public, either now or in the future. If have specific concerns or requests around access to your donated materials (for example, if there are cultural sensitivity or privacy concerns) please contact us to discuss alternative access arrangements.

LTU Archives is open to negotiating alternative custody arrangements, including temporary loans or shared custody of materials. Please contact us to discuss these alternatives to donation.
